Swiss Society for Surgery
The Swiss Society of Surgery (hereinafter referred to as SGC), founded in 1913, is an association within the meaning of Articles 60 to 79 of the Swiss Civil Code.
The SGC sees itself as an
Association of all FMH specialists in surgery;
A specialist society recognized by the FMH for the specialist field of surgery;
Umbrella organization of the Swiss surgical specialty societies;
Member of the FMCH (Foederatio Medicorum Chirurgicorum Helvetica) www.fmch.ch
The SGC has the following objectives
To promote the cohesion of Swiss surgeons;
To promote scientific activity and young academics in the specialty of surgery;
To implement the provisions of the FMH regarding continuing education and training, as well as quality assurance in the specialty of surgery in cooperation with the surgical specialty societies;
Maintaining the image of the surgeon with his partners and in public;
Representation of the professional interests of the members of the society.
The SGC has the following special tasks
Organization of annual scientific congresses and other continuing education events in the field of surgery;
To strive for the harmonization of further education and training standards and for the mutual recognition of titles with other countries;
Co-editing a scientific publication for the field of surgery.
Departmental responsibility
PRESIDENTIAL PORTFOLIO
The President's Office consists of the President, Vice-President and Past-President. The main task is to manage the Board of Directors and the company as a whole. The President coordinates and supervises the activities of the Board department heads and the Managing Director. He convenes and chairs the meetings of the Board of Directors and the General Meetings. The President represents the company and its policy externally. His most important internal task is to stimulate scientific and professional policy activities. In all areas, the President is supported and advised by the Past-President and the Vice-President, who deputizes for him in his absence.
PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE
This department focuses on healthcare policy and collective bargaining. There is a close exchange with all players in the healthcare system, either directly or delegated to the FMCH. The tariff structure is currently being developed in the outpatient sector together with the health insurance companies. In the inpatient area, adjustments to the DRG flat rates are made annually on the basis of applications.

The department head is responsible in particular for the following business areas:
Collection of membership fees and reminders via the head office
Accounting and finances of the company (core business)
Payment transactions and bookkeeping
Investment policy and asset management
Balance sheet and annual accounts

Aim
Assessment to evaluate the physical and mental performance of surgeons aged 60 and over.

2 HSM
Objective
The cantons are mandated by the federal government to undertake nationwide planning in the area of highly specialized medicine. The SGC wants to be actively involved in this process.
Content
The SGC is a member of the HSM Visceral Surgery Advisory Group. The SGC is involved in the HSM planning process. Status 2017: 4 SGC delegates in the support group

Next decisions/assessments of the decision-making body must be awaited. Update of the SGC delegates in the HSM advisory group.

The further development of the HSM planning process is currently unclear. Discrepancies between the interests of the cantons.
3 AQC
Aim
The SGC is closely associated with the AQC. The purpose of the Working Group for Quality Assurance in Surgery (AQC) is to compile joint statistics on cases and procedures and to use these for quality assurance purposes.
Contents
The SGC is closely linked to the AQC. The SGC recognizes the AQC as currently the best model for measuring quality in surgery. SGC formulates letter of support (www.aqc.ch).
