Surgical research in Switzerland

The SGC aims at promoting surgical research in Switzerland. Contributions in the form of presentations, videos or visual abstracts can be submitted for the annual congress. The papers are presented and discussed in thematically organized sessions at the annual congress. In addition, several prizes are awarded each year (Swiss Society of Surgery Prize, Award for the best first-time presentation at the Annual Meeting, Award for the best video).

Project funding 2023/2024

In 2023, the SGC issued its first call for proposals for the financial support of a multicentre randomized controlled trial. The study, funded with CHF 100'000, is to include university hospitals as well as non-university hospitals. The project proposals were evaluated by a group of experts from Germany and Austria. The winning project will be announced at the Annual Meeting in Davos 2024.

The Association for Research in Surgery (ARS) supports surgical research in Switzerland. It advocates compliance with high ethical standards in clinical and basic research. It also aims to promote collaborations between centers in Switzerland and abroad. The ARS organizes the Grant Writing Course and the Basic Science Writing Course.
