Promotion of scientific activity and young academics in the field of surgery
Implementing the regulations of the Swiss Medical Association (FMH) regarding continuing medical education and training, as well as quality assurance in the specialty of surgery
Maintaining the image of surgery among its partners and the public
Representation of the professional interests of our members
The SGC has the following special tasks:
The harmonization of medical speciality education and training standards as well as the mutual recognition of medical speciality titles with other countries
Co-publication of a scientific journal in the field of surgery (Swiss Knife)
Our office is operated by Meister ConCept GmbH (Aarau). It is responsible for the administration of members, invoicing and control of annual fees, bookkeeping, organization and coordination of the general assembly, coordination of SGC awards, tendering of research project support, organization and administration for the oral specialist examination in surgery as well as the organization and administration of Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) Switzerland. The main person responsible for the SGC-SSC at Meister ConCept is Sabrina Leuthard.

Our executive secretary Prof. Dr. med. Raffaele Rosso is the link between our members, the public, the office and the board of the Swiss Society for Surgery. Among other things, he is responsible for the management of the society, professional policy matters, media contact, contact person for foreign organizations, supervision of the office as well as liaison with the Swiss Medical Association (FMH), the Swiss Institute of Medical Education (SIWF) and specialist societies.
