The Swiss Society for Surgery unites surgeons in Switzerland since 1913 and is responsible for postgraduate training (specialist examinations) and continuing education. The Swiss Visceral Surgeons (SGVC) are responsible for specialist training in visceral surgery. The interdisciplinary focus in specialized traumatology is led by the Swiss Society for Surgery and swiss orthopaedics (since 2024).

The Swiss College of Surgeons is the umbrella organization for surgeons in Switzerland. Its aim is to unite the surgical family and act as its voice. It was founded in Basel in August of 2017 after several surgical specialty societies transformed themselves into independent specialist societies. Together with the specialist societies, the Swiss College of Surgeons is responsible for standardizing surgical training in the first two years (called Core Surgical Curriculum, CSC). The Swiss College of Surgeons also organizes the annual meeting.
